Gary Simmons

Chief Engineer, William Hare Group

Gary Simmons joined William Hare Ltd. as an apprentice draughtsman in 1977; he had worked in the steelwork industry for almost 45 years.

During his career, he has specialised in steelwork connection design and had worked with many different design codes around the world and he has overseen the transition from drawing board to CAD.

In 1991, he became a Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers and in 2006, he was appointed as Technical Director to the William Hare Group, a position that he held until 2020.

He has been a Director of the SCI (Steel Construction Institute) for the past 6 years, and he was voted in a Deputy President of the BCSA 2 years ago.
