The XIV Conference on Steel and Composite Construction takes place from November 23 to 24, 2023 in Coimbra, Portugal. The main objective of the conference is the dissemination of innovations and achievements in steel and composite construction. Hence the Organizing and Scientific Committees, chaired by Prof. Luís Simões da Silva and by Prof. Paulo Vila Real, launched the “Eduardo de Arantes e Oliveira Professor Award” to honor the best contributions of the conference.
At the same time, the Award honors the achievements of Professor Eduardo de Arantes e Oliveira, born in 1933 and graduated in civil engineering in 1956 by the Technical University of Lisbon (UTL) and worked at the National Civil Engineering Laboratory (LNEC). In 1969, he was appointed full professor of material resistance at UTL. His main scientific achievements are in structural mechanics and the initial finite element method. He was several times Dean of UTL, Director of LNEC and Secretary of State for Science. Professor Eduardo de Arantes e Oliveira is one of the most prominent scientists and leaders in contemporary Portugal's civil engineering and an inspiring person.
The best papers will be published in an International Steel Construction Magazine.
