This 2nd Edition of the “Professor Eduardo de Arantes e Oliveira Award” is launched in cooperation with the publisher Ernst & Sohn and their well-known magazine Steel Construction, which focuses on applied research and advanced design. This Award aims to honor the best papers from the conference.
At the same time, the Award honors the achievements of Professor Eduardo de Arantes e Oliveira, born in 1933 and graduated in civil engineering in 1956 by the Technical University of Lisbon (UTL) and worked at the National Civil Engineering Laboratory (LNEC). In 1969, he was appointed full professor of material resistance at UTL. His main scientific achievements are in structural mechanics and the initial finite element method. He was several times Dean of UTL, Director of LNEC and Secretary of State for Science. Professor Eduardo de Arantes e Oliveira is one of the most prominent scientists and leaders in contemporary Portugal's civil engineering and an inspiring person.
The best papers will be published in Steel Construction magazine.
